About

My name is Marcel. I’m currently studying biology at Barcelona’s University (UB) and working as a freelance birder for SEO/Birdlife and the Institut Català d’Ornitologia, of course doing field work such as offshore seabird census or ringing campaigns. I’ve also worked in butterflies doing a Butterfly Monitoring Scheme census at Llobregat Delta. Moreover, I am a member of the Catalan Rarities Comitee  and I administrate the webpage http://www.ornitho.cat, a database of bird sightings in Catalonia.

If you have questions or suggestions, of course they will be welcome!

Hi Marcel

I’m going to Tenerife in March with wildlife photographer Heather Angel. She needs to take pictures of birds pollinating Isoplexis canariensis, and I noticed on your blog (A Song to say Goodbye)
a picture of a fabulous stand of this species along a track.

Is there any chance that you could give me the exact location of this photo, and how we might get there without having to climb up the Barranco de Cuevas Negras, as we’re only on the island for three days, and she probably won’t be able to carry all the camera gear up from the bottom.

Many thanks

Teresa

Could we use some of your photos for a field guide to marine mammals? If so, let me know. Thanks Bob

Hi Marcel,
I’m hoping to spend my summer holiday in Spain this year (already visited in early April – area just north of Madrid). I am thinking of including the Soria area in the itinerary, possibly staying at a camp site close to the Embalse de . la Cuerda del Pozo.

I was interested to see the postings about Aquatic Warblers. Is the site where they occur accessible for the general public? Is it easy to find?

Many thanks and great blog ….I love Falsterbo too!

Hi Julian! Thank you very much for your comments! The area is public an easily found, but this year a friend of mine will start a project to monitor Aquatic arbler migration in these flooded meadows. She will be more than happy if you join her (and I might join you too if it’s in August), but please, email her before visiting the area in order to avoid disturbances to the ringing activity. Her name is Sylvia (yeah, like the warbler genus…) and her email sylvia.ortega.mateo@gmail.com

Please email me as well and we can try Dupont’s lark and get good views of Black-bellied sandgrouse, Great bustard and some other especialties. It’s free, I promise!
